You may not be aware of Google Glass ? that?s because the innovative product has not even went on sale yet. Still, that has not stopped the UK government imposing a ban on using the device while driving. But why?
The Department for Transport wielded the metaphorical axe on using Google?s upcoming technology while driving as they say that motorists should keep their attention firmly on the road.
Although the Glass technology is still being tweaked, the DFT has stated that it is ?aware of the impending rollout of Google Glass and are in discussion with the Police to ensure that individuals do not use this technology while driving".
A spokesperson for the DFT added: ?It is important that drivers give their full attention when they are behind the wheel and do not behave in a way that stops them from observing what is happening on the road.
?A range of offences and penalties already exist to tackle those drivers who do not pay proper attention to the road, including careless driving which will soon become a fixed penalty offence."
Thanks to new careless driving penalties that will be introduced soon, drivers face a ?60 fine, as well as three points on their license, if they are caught wearing the futuristic-looking Google Glass gadget.
Google Glass is expected to go on sale next year with a price tag of around ?1,000. Do you think road accident levels will rise as a result of the product being released or do you think the measures in place are sufficient?
